Willow dress and lala skirt mash into Easter dress

A few posts ago, I told you that I am now part of the One Thimble* Zest team, and today I am bringing you my second post. One Thimble's home is in Australia, so the seasons are the opposite of what we are having in the Netherlands. Doing fall inspiration in spring is easy peasy though, it is the same kind of weather. Although the four fall editions (edition 2, 6, 10 and 14)* combined really contain a big amount of patterns to choose from I went a bit of piste. I decided to mash two patterns into a new dress.

I mashed the Lala skirt and Willow dress, both coincidentally from the same designer Bubby and me, into a ruffled pre schooler's dream dress . Two years ago I bought some over the top Easter themed knit and I combined it with stretchy lace, The lace I already used here. The lace has some stains (it was crazy cheap), but as ruffles the stains are totally invisible.

Both the Willow dress and Lala skirt have an elastic waist, so you d not have to change any pattern piece to combine these patterns. Although no adjstements were needed, I did make a small one. I did not want an elastic waist and put a non gathered pieces with lace overlay between skirt and bodice, to create some more unity. I also adjusted the armhole contruction a bit. Instead of using an band, I cut the small pattern bodice pieces on the outside of the lace double. This way I created a neatly finished armhole without lining the whole bodice.

My daughter has been wearing the dress since I made it two days ago, she loves the full skirt. While I was half way construction, I remembered I am not a huge fan of gathering fabric. I do not mind gathering a skirt. The occasional gathering falls in the same category as pinning something, but this dress needs a lot of gathering. I got flashbacks to when I sewed this project. I did not feel like gathering fabric for two weeks. My middle one seems to love the dress as much as my eldest still loves her ruffled piece (she wore it to school three months ago for her birthday), so it was all worth it. If you are planning a similar dress it might be a good idea not to do it last minute (like me) and just take your time. Do your ruffles infront of the tv, that is how I usually do my pinning, and that makes it even enjoyable a bit.

We held a themed photo shoot because it was finally warm enough to actually go outside. Like this dress, she will wear this dress far beyond the prints occasion. Feel free to leave a comment in the language you prefer (although Google translate might have to assist me if you choose something different than English, German, Dutch or Hungarian). If you buy anything through my affiliate links (*), I get a small commission (the price stays the same for you), I am very grateful for everything that feeds my fabric addiction.
