The Eli Monster Spelen dress release

My nine year old is already becoming a big girl, but she still loves to feel like a princess. She always wears dresses and she prefers them to be colorful and wide (ideally with a lot of twirl). When I tested the newest Eli Monster dress*, I decided to make her a truly girly dress in her favorite color: blue! I did well, she loves it.

You might not know Eli Monster*, but she has a beautiful collection of (amongst others) woven dress patterns that all have a special unforgettable feature. I sewed up the Driehoekje dress in August last year which has a unique bodice shape.  The dress that I am showing you today, has those side ties that really steal the show for me. The ribbon that I used was a little stiff, but my girl actually told me she likes the fact that the bows stand up straight. I was originally hoping the stiffness would go a away after washing, now I am not sure anymore what I want.

I wanted the contrast panel on the front to really stand out, so I used two contrasting fabrics. In this listing picture* you see that one fabric also works beautifully! One of the fabric that I used (the middle panel) has unknown origin and the other one is of the earliest Soft Cactus edition. I feel that blues can always be combined, almost all shades go together. Like I said, my girl's favorite color is blue, so she totally agrees with me.

The dress either closes with an invisible zipper or with buttons. I chose for buttons this time. I fortunately am no longer afraid of them. I do not often use buttons, but when I do, I like to use them as an extra decoration. That is why I chose two different colored hearts for the dress. I should have put a tulle skirt under the dress while shooting it, that is what the designer did. Sewing a tulle underskirt went on my to do list.

Due to the release, the Spelen dress* is on sale for 7 dollars in the Eli Monster web shop*.

Feel free to leave a comment in the language you prefer (although Google translate might have to assist me if you choose something different than English, German, Dutch or Hungarian). If you buy anything through my affiliate links (*), I get a small commission (the price stays the same for you), I am very grateful for everything that feeds my fabric addiction.

  2. Mooi!
